RUSSIAN / When we are parents of a disabled child (Text)

This book is the result of the conjoined efforts of parents and professionals to impart their respective experiences with child disability. The two parts of the book offer a complementary approach that is destined to help families with a disabled child to understand their situation and foster their child’s development. The first part, entitled “parents-to-parents”, includes letters of parents of disabled children who share their feelings and experiences, as well as “lessons learned”; it contains a wealth of advice for other parents of disabled children. The second part, “professionals-to-parents”, addresses the challenges of raising disabled children from the vantage of the fields of psychology and pedagogy.

Support to families of Children with disabilities in Eastern and Central Europe (Text)

This is the report of the fifth training session that Bice organised in Central and Eastern Europe, in collaboration with other NGOs, on the issue of children with disabilities. It took place in Krakow, Poland, in October 1995, with participants from Poland, Hungary, Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine and Russia. Aiming to reinforce the families of children with disabilities, it brought together parents, siblings, as well as professionals.

The goals of the seminar were first to share experiences of support to families and to encourage the multiplication of counselling centres or similar structures, adapted to local needs. The second was to build a network that would provide help in the setting up and running of counselling centres for families, in training, fund-raising and other matters. The third was to encourage, through technical and financial assistance, the local publication of training manuals for parents and professionals on support services for families of children with disabilities.
